Cheap Prices and a Rich History

The northernmost part of Belize is a tourist gateway into the country from Belize’s neighbor – Mexico. As the name of the region suggests, Corozal Town is the largest city in the area. Prices in this region are relatively low and are a bit closer to those in other countries of Central America, where the price levels are considerably lower than in Belize.

Come visit Cerros

The archaeological site of Cerros, which is definitely worth a visit, is located in Corozal District. These are the only Maya remains in Belize that are located by the sea, which makes for some remarkable photography! Most local people go shopping in the nearest Mexican city of Chetumal, because food, gas, and various drugstore products are far cheaper there than in Belize.

Backpackers’ Heaven

Corozal Town is one of the most popular spots for backpackers to enter the country. They usually take a bus from Cancun to Chetumal and then cross the border on their way to Corozal. The town of Corozal is quite popular for expats, because it is very easy to reach. The biggest blow for the region was introducing a boat transfer from the Mexican city of Chetumal to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, because a lot of tourists now choose to skip the beauties of northern Belize and go directly to the Cayes.
