Spanish Lookout is a large community of Mennonites located in Belize’s Cayo District. Spanish Lookout is accessible by several roads going north off the Western Highway. The best way to access Spanish Lookout is via the paved Route 30 at Mile 57 of the Western Highway. Many people come to Western Belize, especially the Cayo District, looking to interact with the local Mennonite community. The Mennonites do their own road paving, which is the reason why their roads are considered the best in the country.
Spanish Lookout is mainly an agricultural community, and is particularly famous because of its renowned furniture makers. It also has the only oil field in production in the whole country of Belize. It is a major producer of dairy products, poultry, vegetables, and cattle, supplying the majority of the country with these delicious commodities. Chicken barns in Spanish Lookout are the main suppliers of chicken meat for the most popular Belizean chicken brand, Quality Chicken. Interestingly enough, many of the small wooden houses that you see all over Belize are actually prefabricated home made by Mennonites in Spanish Lookout.
