Lubaantun

One of the most interesting archaeological remains of the Toledo District is Lubaantun. This location is extremely well known because of the infamous crystal skull. The story, however, is a bit more complicated and it is very likely that the skull was made ​​with modern technologies, meaning that it might not have come from Belize at all.

Lubaantun lies approximately 42 kilometers (26 miles) northwest of Punta Gorda, a little over three kilometers (two miles) from the village of San Pedro Columbia. There was a huge collection of miniature ceramic objects found on the site. The buildings in Lubaantun were formed from large blocks of stone without the use of any binding materials, yet another mystery of this popular site in Belize.
